Make money

As a business owner, your #1 goal is to make money. Simple.

Money is the life blood of the business, if money stops flowing in the business, the business dies. It is a very simple metric to track, yet businesses collapse everyday because they lost track of their cash flow.

In most cases, it is the money you have that determines whether you can continue to operate as a business or if everybody goes home. The need for a business to make money is real and it is amazing that we suddenly need to remind people to make money.

These days, we have a whole new class of “businesses”, they usually call themselves Tech Startups – they launch without any business model or plans to actually make money. That works well in Silicon Valley for companies like Instagram and the rest, but it just cannot work over here because the landscape is totally different.

If your business is not making any money, it is not a business… it is a busyness and you ought to know the difference. We are nearly at a stage where people are actually afraid to put a price tag on their offers, looking at giving it away for free and we can talk about making money later.

As a business owner, you must have a mindset of how will we make money from this idea we have? That is the right question that will get things going in your mind.

A business owner needs to stop thinking about how can I raise more money for my business from investors, she really needs to think about how can I make more money for my business from my customers. Stop looking at raising money, make the money instead.

In search of quotable quotes

There is serious rush for inspiration nowadays, as people seek one liners and deep thoughts they can easily share on social media.

On some levels, an argument can be made that we have more or less trimmed down life into seeking quotable quotes. Looking for the next fantastic combination of words that will get our head spinning.

Well, let me be honest with you; learning all the quotable quotes in the world does not count. If you are still not taking concrete steps in pursuit of your goals, if you are still not taking action, it does not count!

We have somehow replaced technical depth, real skills for fluency in quotable quotes. You discuss with some people and within 10 minutes of your interaction, they have quoted from 35 different sources, all quotes usually out of context. We are now in an era when people actually step out to start businesses and initiatives without first acquiring real knowledge and training with respect to what they want to do.

I once did some analysis and found out that people who attend motivational seminars very often rarely make it in the real world. Majority of them usually end up becoming motivational speakers also, motivating another set of people and the circle repeats itself. I wonder if you have noticed that also?

I think this tells us that the quotes peddled around therefore have no real long term value.

So, maybe you really should stop reading those motivational books. Maybe you should stop cramming quotable quotes. What you really need is knowledge, knowledge is the raw data required for creativity. With knowledge, you begin to actually empower your mind to see things clearly.

It is real skills that gets you ahead, not quotable quotes.

God does not exist

God does not exist, He is merely a figment of your rich imagination until you can prove otherwise.

I do not think it is a smart move to argue with Atheists – people who are convinced there is no God. If anybody says there is no God, the best thing is to leave her alone.

The best way to make a case for your God is not by arguing he exists, or bombing his name into the hearts of men the way the Jihadists are doing it. It is by PROVING it beyond any reasonable doubt.

“For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.” – 1 Corinth 4:20 (NKJV)

Hence, proof that God exists is not supposed to be debated, you are supposed to show us by exhibiting THE POWER. Show us something that only God could have done, something we could not get by brilliance or proper planning.

I think it is scriptural not to physically fight or argue for the reality of your God:

Consider Judges 6: 28 – 32

And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, there was the altar of Baal, torn down; and the wooden image that was beside it was cut down, and the second bull was being offered on the altar which had been built. 29 So they said to one another, “Who has done this thing?” And when they had inquired and asked, they said, “Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.” 30 Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, because he has torn down the altar of Baal, and because he has cut down the wooden image that was beside it.”

31 But Joash said to all who stood against him, “Would you plead for Baal? Would you save him? Let the one who would plead for him be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him plead for himself, because his altar has been torn down!” 32 Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, “Let Baal plead against him, because he has torn down his altar.”

– Judges 6: 28 -32 (NKJV)

Therefore, if your God really exists, then he ought to prove him by himself. And God does that all the time through works of wonders. He does it through the mighty works of wonders he performs through you! That was how he was able to prove to Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt that indeed he is alive and not joking. It is not by debates, street protests and the likes.

It is up to us to prove that indeed our God is alive and well, that we are not just fanatics lost in the webs of religion.

It is not an issue of “I have peace, you can not have peace without Jesus” or an issue of “without Jesus, you are on the highway to hell fire”. While both statements may be true, it is of no meaning to an Atheist. To this man, all this things are meaningless.

The best way to make a case that God exists is results! We must produce real, pragmatic results for the world to see.

How can we convince people God is the great creator of everything we can see when our churches are shabby and look like glorified poultries? How can we convince people God enriches and adds no sorry when the richest men in town are cultists?

I am looking forward to a time when the richest man in the world will declare boldly that GOD is the source of his wealth. Today, a lot of Physicists claim to be Atheist, I am looking forward to a time when the greatest theories will be discovered and the person who makes the discoveries is a Christian who declares boldly that GOD gave him the theory.

One of my mission in life is to ensure that the next generation, those coming up after me will never aspire to operate outside God. By the time they see real exploits God is using us for, their role models will not be Hip Hop artists high on weed and drugs, they will be real Christians making real advancements in every sector of the economy, influencing every sphere of life.

We have to prove God can do so much more for us and through us. We have to prove we can outshine, outclass and outsmart them all; everyone who claims to be achieving success without God.

I want to turn the world downside up for God, what about you?

It is all part of the journey

Omnific Works, my technology company recently turned 2 years old and I thought to myself whether there be any reason to celebrate and whether I even had anything to celebrate. I am not yet a millionaire and I still require my Dad to bail me out financially when things go really rough.

Amidst all these musing, a thought flashed my mind:

“Behind every successful man are years of failure.”

Everybody who turns out to be truly successful must have passed through the valley of the shadow of death at some point or the other. Dig into the biographies of great men, from the ancient era of people like Joseph, Moses, King David, and on to modern times of people like Steve Jobs, Olusegun Obasanjo. Question your mentors that are actually successful, everyone had to go through failure, betrayal, and real pain.

The things that makes us truly successful are the hard lessons learnt during the season of failure. I can even make a sound case on why early success can even kill you.

Furthermore; it dawned on me that most new businesses fail within the first 2 years, as much as 90% of new businesses and initiatives simply fail to survive the first 2 years. Saying Omnific Works is 2 years old is pretty modest, even though I got it registered legitimately in 2012, the seeds that grew into Omnific Works were sown in 2009. So, on paper we are 2 years old yet there is no sign that Omnific Works is going away or can go away. In 2012, a friend wanted to know my back up plan and I then declared to him that I had no back up plan; it is either it works or it works. I was not drawing up alternative plans or even thinking about it.

I am earnestly waiting for the world’s media to describe me as an overnight success when I finally hit the spotlight, the joy for me is that for those who really know me, they realise that my overnight success will have taken nearly a decade to accomplish.

Somehow, the tenacity and never-say-die spirit developed to keep pushing against all odds and common sense is all part of the journey.

My mentor says you should befriend a person who has had many troubles and yet stayed intact; that shows he has “disaster management skills”. As for people who claim to have never had any serious problem? Kindly run away from them because when the first problem strikes, they might just collapse under the strike.

To truly succeed in life, it is not only the glossy, flamboyant things that count. Our failures and bitter experiences are just as important, if not even much more important!

It is all part of the journey.

Capacity on the inside

One of the difference between great people and mediocre is planning and attention to detail. A good planner can easily execute 10 projects simultaneously, switching from task to task with great ease while a mediocre will barely be able to run and properly execute one project effectively.

What makes this difference?

I think it is the capacity within. I firmly believe that anyone can perform at their peak if they take time to develop themselves into the very best they can.

Most people that honestly sit down and ask themselves: “Am I operating at my peak? Am I doing the best I can do?” usually answer NO. There is usually this feeling deep down inside that i can do much more than I am currently doing.

One trend in the business space recently is an influx of people who moan over lack of money as a reason they cannot pursue their business ideas. Yet, I think they are missing the real issue. It is an issue of capacity!

Everyone will move ahead much faster if they took time to acquire skills and develop capacity on the inside.

Many people want to start businesses and the only knowledge they are equipped with are 10,000 quotable quotes! They know NOTHING about marketing, strategy, basic business accounting, business law and a dozen other essential things every serious business owner needs to know. Running a business is not an evening stroll with your significant other, where all that is required is laughter and sincerity.

The Japanese say “Business is War”, and my own personal research agrees with them.

Whatsoever you are thinking of spending your time and life doing, you should develop capacity to handle it.

Morning Starter

In my humble opinion, the morning is the most important part of the day. The morning tends to be the period you can mine for maximum productivity if you know how to go about it.

By morning, I really mean early morning, in the range of 5AM – 7AM, not 8AM, 9AM. I mean really early in the morning. How do you kick start your mornings? Do you try to have a defined routine or you just take it as it comes?

I believe it will do you a lot of good if you really take out time to plan your morning routine in a way that you extra maximum value from that quiet period when your mind is refreshed from a good night’s sleep.

One of the great things to do early in the morning is to expose your mind to great ideas and do some thinking and reflection. Who do you spend your mornings with? What do you gain every morning?

I am not going to tell you exactly what to do (or what I do in the morning), as I believe it is best you come up with a formula that works best for you. I will just leave you with a lot of pointers.

  • The very first thing you want to do is ensure you wake up early enough. You will not be able to use your mornings productively if you keep on waking up late. Waking up late wastes the morning, as you will not be in frame of mind for productivity. You would rather be playing catch up, running here and there to get yourself together and ensure you meet up with the day’s commitment.
  • Try to create a 2 hour period for yourself. You should have it in mind that you would like to deposit 2 hours into yourself everyday. Look at it this way; you get 24 hours every day and various forces of life will demand for portions of it. Your day job, parents, children and friends will all take their own part out of the day. At the end of the day, you have not used any part of the day for yourself, for your own personal development. Change that! You should also take 2 hours in the morning for yourself.
  • Expose yourself to great minds and great ideas by reading great books. One of the greatest books successful people like reading very early in the morning is the best selling book of all time – The Holy Bible and I cannot endorse it enough, it ought to find a space on your shelf – whether physical or virtual. You should try reading it in as many various translations as possible. You should also add read other great books that discusses other important aspects of life like financial, relationship, goal setting, creativity, strategy and leadership. Needless to say having The Morebise Post included in your morning schedule is also a great thing. The goal is to educate your mind. The cool, serene atmosphere you get in most places in the morning makes it easier to learn things in the morning. (There is a reason schools teach Mathematics in the morning and Home Economics in the afternoon 😀 )
  • The morning is a great time for thinking and reflections. I think it is a great thing to reflect upon life everyday. Many people have goals, but because they do not reflect and think about their goals often enough, they usually end up forgetting about the goals. Then, one morning they wake up and discover they have failed to take the little steps required for the grand goal to happen. That will not happen if you think about it everyday. The morning is a great thing to ponder upon the question: “What can I do about my goals today?”

You really should upload today’s Post into your mind and share it with friends and family that you feel will find it useful.

Mr Independent

Everybody craves for independence, this feeling of ultimate freedom to do whatsoever you whenever you like. The other side of freedom is that it sometimes leads to recklessness and without any external force to intervene, it leads to demise.

I think everyone needs to find a sweet spot between total independence and dependence, nobody should become so cocky as to declare independence and hence refuse to listen to take words of advise from people again.

I am not saying you should become a suggestion box, giving your ears to every advise issued in your direction. What I am trying to say is that no matter how high you soar in life, you should have 2 or 3 voices in your life that can critically analyse what you are doing and have a say.

No man is an island, no one knows it all. Last time I checked, only God had the power to know it all, as for man…. What can we do?

Happy Independence day Nigeria!

60 million children need your help

Are You Ready to Win a $10m Prize by Developing a Solution to Educate Millions of Children?

There are almost 60m children around the world, who are not attending school. Of these, half are In Africa. The vast majority are girls.

This number is now increasing further because of conflict in Northern Nigeria, Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, and also because of the Ebola crisis in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.

This is a terrible situation, which must be addressed. The question is how do we build enough schools, hire enough teachers, provide enough books, and other materials, to educate so many children?

Where will we get the money? And how long will it take before we have done all that; it might be decades, and meanwhile a whole generation’s future will have been lost!

Introducing the XPRIZE for Global Learning:

This is a calling to think of a way we could do education differently. How can we deliver education to such children without the school building, teachers and the fancy uniforms?

To win it this prize, you will need to have an open mind and literally “re-invent” education, from the way we know it today. A team will have to develop an “App”, which will make it possible for a child, who has never been to school, to learn to read, write and master basic arithmetic, without the aid of a teacher.

It will not be easy, but if you can do that you will walk away with $10m cash as the winner!

Prior to this, the five groups chosen as finalists in the competition will each receive $1m to work on their idea.

If you want to know the rules of the competition, then you will have to study it on the XPRIZE’s website: The competition was launched last week, at the UN Headquarters.

Schooling and Education are 2 different things and both are in my friend’s words: “seriously broken!”. I think it is time to completely re-invent education and what it means to be educated.

Access to quality education remains very expensive. Even the people with access to ‘schools’ are not getting the education.

What if we could change all that? I still believe that practical solutions to our problems cannot be imported, a Demola, Chiazor, Tosin or Ejeyi has to arise and get it done.

To motivate you, $10 million is waiting.

Localised Innovation

The solutions to our problem will not come from abroad, it has to come from within us.

A little confession: before September 2014, I have NEVER used Google Maps before. Not for anything practical anyway.

I did a lot of traveling in September, far beyond my comfort zones and then for the first time, I was really able to see places the way outsiders will see them and then I experienced in first person how difficult it was to get useful information about places around me and actually how to get there.

Google Maps is doing a good job, but it full of errors and using it to get around using public transportation is not easy, it is just not so helpful. You can not effectively use it to move around if you are not driving your own car.

I am a firm believer in the idea of building products and services for a well defined target audience, if you set out to start your business with a target audience in mind, you can better customise the business offering to meet their needs. If you set out with the big idea of building your business to serve everyone in the world, it will be so generalist that no one in particular might even find it useful.

It was great then to find Roadpreppers, a web-based app that looks to provide step-by-step navigation for public transportation commuters in Lagos, in a language they can relate to. When searching for places on RoadPreppers, it informs exactly which buses to take and which bus-stop to alight. No engineer at Google (which is based in the USA) can think up something like that.

We need more locally developed applications, we need more locally thought out ideas that will positively enhance how we live, work and play. The apps we import from abroad do not effectively tackle our challenges here which includes poor Internet access for example.

Everyday, we read about yet another photo sharing app or chat app launching featuring exactly the same features as the others before them. At a point I joked that the difference between the various chatting apps was their logo and colours, I wondered if we had seen it all… then I found SideTalk, a new chatting app available on Android only for now. SideTalk brings an interesting innovation to the game that makes it stand out: SideTalk works without the internet, it does not use your data!

SideTalk uses your phone’s bluetooth to send and receive messages. It is easy to see a lot of use cases for something like this:

  • Side talks during a lecture or meeting (pun intended)
  • Chatting within the house. Why should I use up my precious data to exchange messages with my younger brother in the basement?
  • Location based social networking, connect me to interesting people around me who are SideTalking.

I wonder why I have not thought up something like this before! Of course, this will not be useful to everyone and it does not need to. But I am sure it is a chat app that will appeal to the data-less folks out there. SideTalk is a brilliant example of what can happen if we sit down to think about how we can build experiences people can relate to and find useful.

This is localised innovation and going forward, if your business offerings are not relevant enough to your target audience, if you cannot feel their pain the way RoadPreppers and SideTalk has demonstrated, you are on your own.

Watching The World

  • Body hacking; people are modifying their bodies to do interesting things. Quick question: would you remove your natural eyes and replace with one that has cool features like 100x zoom (replacing the need for microscopes and binoculars), infrared and night time vision? Plenty of food for thought here and what exactly it means to be human or machine.

  • 1.6 Million more teachers are needed in classrooms by 2015
  • 250 million children around the world cannot read or write
  • Learning basic reading skills could lift 171 million people out of poverty

Would you like to change your reality?

In a flash, I saw it… a principle that had the potential to turn my life around forever!

I can create my own reality! Suddenly, I understood that I was no longer subject to the same laws as everyone else, I could create my own reality! Wow! Let me explain…

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” – John 14:6 (KJV)

Here we see Jesus making quite an audacious claim to be THE WAY, and THE TRUTH and THE LIFE, what exactly do these words even mean?

Things get really interesting when we look up that same scripture in other translations

“Jesus: I am the path, the truth, and the energy of life” – John 14:6 (The Voice edition)

Aha! A new word: ENERGY of life, that means the energy to run through life does not come by eating and drinking, it comes from something else.

The Recovery Version of that scripture is the one that resonated the most with me and the main basis of today’s #TMP.

“Jesus said to him, I am the way and the reality and the life” – John 14:6 (Recovery version)

This translation replaced the word TRUTH with REALITY. Which means that Jesus is my reality, not what the news defines as my reality, not what the economy says it is… But whatever Jesus says it is!

Cool, isn’t it? But that is not all!

From John 1:1 – 14, it gets much more interesting, John uses the Greek word logos to describe Jesus “in the beginning,” or before creation and time began. Logos means WORD, but specifically it means the spoken word or a statement. Jesus is God’s SPOKEN WORD, according to John.

Therefore, if Jesus is the WORD and we have our BIBLE which also contains the WORD of GOD, I therefore feel our task is simple! Using the WORD of God, which is contained in our BIBLE, anybody can create his own REALITY! Anyone can get the ENERGY to go through life and find the path of ultimate illumination.

Let us take a clue from our Father, the one who created ALL things.

In the beginning, He found out that the heavens and the earth that he had created had totally broken down. The bible reports that He found it FORMLESS, EMPTY and DARKNESS was over the surface of the deep.

Is this not a surprising thing, how can God create something FORMLESS, EMPTY and DARK? This shows us that some other things had happened… But what happens next is quite remarkable; God spoke!

Like you would have done, God also spoke. But He didn’t start to complain and accuse whoever wrecked the havoc, He didn’t start to cry and whine and make revenge plans – all a complete waste of His precious time. He simply declared what he wanted to see: LIGHT!

So, would you like to change your reality?

React to life the way God did, when you see things you do not like spring up around you. Do not react as if you saw it, instead declare what you want with your own mouth! Put the WORD of GOD in your mouth, boldly declare the WORD of GOD because it is the WORD of God that ought to create your own reality as a child of God.

Your reality is not defined by the things you can see or even perceive, your reality should be created by what you say with your own mouth and careful steps the declarations will then lead you to do.

With Jesus; which is the SPOKEN WORD of God in your own mouth, you can create anything you would like to see. If God could use it to create everything we can see now, I do not for one second doubt its efficacy!

You should try it! This new week, every morning make BOLD declarations from the bible, declare that you want to see LOVE, JOY. You should also call in some millions of money you know?

A fantastic exercise I now do often is to call in ideas and money everyday; ideas rule the world and I need money to build my ideas. Simple!

So, would you like to change your reality? I am sure you now know what to do.
