In 5 years from today…

Here are 2 simple questions for you:

  • 5 years from today, where would you be? What would you be doing?? (Let your mind run wild!)
  • Now… what exactly do you NEED TO DO TODAY (detailed step-by-step to-do list) in order to make your projection a reality?

If you approach and try to answer sincerely, it should keep you busy for 3 – 6 hours to get satisfactory and workable answers/plans…

When you start from nothing

Someone once fumed: “I made him what he his today and now see how he is biting the fingers that fed him”, to which he received the reply: “Go and make another one!”.

If you have done something once before, you can certainly do it a second time… repeat over and over again.

This is why it is good for you to start from nothing.

A lot of people started building their wealth from nothing.

You not having the resources you think you needed will force you to go out in full force, developing the much needed tenacity to keep going… even when the chips are down.

People who make it in life are those who have developed the tenacity to keep forging ahead no matter what may come their way.

You can really learn what works, and how to work the system… and then how to tweak the system and make it better.

Never be afraid of starting from nothing…

In fact, starting from nothing is the best way to start.

How to build up passion for what you do

I think having passion for what you do is key to long term success.

A few weeks ago, I was having a business chat with a senior colleague that confided in me that he was getting “burnt out”… by he was sure he just needed a small break.

He is too passionate about what he does to quit altogether.

Want to build up passion in your life?

It starts with having Faith in God and then Faith in your self and your own ability to conquer all challenges and get desired results.

Then you need to have hope… hope that tomorrow will be definitely better than today.

Love what you do and the people you serve.

Shifting to this mindset helps build up passion and keeps you in the game longer…

When others fade off…. you get stronger and more commited.

Here is why money should NOT be the primary driver in business

When you combine the common knowledge that nearly 9 in 10 new businesses fail within the first 2 years with the knowledge that most people in business are there because they are looking for money…

I think it is not silly for me to conclude that many people in business fail because money is their primary driver.

Is this a bad thing Mr M.? No, not really.

However, you need to know that it is a bad idea to start a business because you could not find a job.

You need to be better than that.

Commit to something higher than money… and you will find something deeper.

Money is the easiest thing to make.. if your heart is in the right place **wink**

Commit to something higher than money; commit to excellence

Commit to something higher than money; commit to innovation

Commit to something higher than money; that is what will keep you going when the others go out of business.

It is not about the amount of money you spend

Does the richest guy always get the girl?

I know opinions will be divided on this… but y’all know the truth…

When it comes to wooing a woman, the right strategy is better than trying to buy your way into her heart… haha (I don’t want anybody asking me if I speak from experience… haha)

A sound business strategy is key to survival.

Don’t just be spending money… throwing money at the problem is rarely the answer.

You need to sit still and think clearly about how you can grow your business. If nothing comes up, look for consultants that know what they are doing…

Haha.. you know that not all consultants know what they are doing, right?

Better still, why not invest in learning? Big business builders are always learning, always networking with like minded people and forming alliances.

Smart Business Builders know that they cannot always out spend the competition and so they try to out think them instead!

Is your passion project 3 years away?

There is an interesting set of people I meet everyday, people who are very passionate about a certain idea for a business, or non-profit and are keen to start working on it in about 3-5 years time.

The thing is that after another 3 years, they are still 3-5 years from launching it.

In fact, they are always 3 – 5 years away from kicking off the venture!

I wonder if you know someone in this category of people… or perhaps you are also in this category.

I understand that we need resources to start; funds, an awesome and supportive team, and a gazillion other things come to mind.

However, you need to realise that if you fail to start, you will begin to stink.

Start it or watch as the vision begins to stagnate and stink.

What you really need is some bravery.

Men are brave.

Be brave.

You will not sink.

Now, there is a difference between starting a business and launching one.

We have been working on our new online marketing platform: CloudPitcher for several months now, however… We are yet to launch it.

You start a business the day you conceive it.

You launch it the day you open your doors to the public.

I have nearly a dozen projects my team and I have started, but have not launched yet.

So… those projects are no longer 3 – 5 years away, we have designed processes, things we need to do, things we need to cross off the list.

Think about it: If you are really 5 years away from launching your passion project, if we ask for the status by December this year, your response should be that you are 4 years and 9 months away from launching… no longer 5 years.

In my small mind, that is the proof that you are working on it.

Your projects don’t have to be forever trapped, start working today if you are really serious about launching them in 3 years time.

P.S.

This September, I am leading some interesting people on the journey to building using my well tested 7 step process. I should have interesting updates every now and then. (You can still join in by the way)

Goal-setting is for amateurs

One key difference between Amateurs and Professionals?

Amateurs have goals, Professionals have a process.

In case you are wondering what the difference is… Here it is:

A goal is merely a statement of intention, that is all it is. A process on the other hand are (well thought out) steps that need to be taken in a certain sequence, in other to get a specific result.

The first month of the year is the time most people set up all those goals for themselves: what they want, what they don’t want and how they want things to go.

However, the boys are separated from the men when it is time to outline the process needed in order for that to happen.

Professionals don’t stop at goal setting…. it must become a clearly defined process they plan to follow.

What is your personal development process?

What is your business marketing process?

What is your idea development process?

What is your spiritual development process??

Conventional thinking only leads to one thing

Mediocrity.

That is what conventional thinking leads to.

If you are thinking like everybody out there… there is no way you can stand out.

The world is the way it is today because everybody is blending in, very few have the boldness to really standout and take outside-the-box approaches to everything.

Conventional thinking only leads to one thing, mediocrity… and I am guessing that is not what you want for yourself.

Brave up, take some risks… dream better.

We have to.

Any other thing is leading to the very thing we are running away from: mediocrity.

Nobody cares about what you know. Try this instead.

I want to let you in on a big secret of my life and success so far.

I might be everything people say I am: brilliant, self-driven, highly optimistic and visionary…

However, this is all irrelevant.

What really matters is that I care.

See, people are not so interested in what you know or how you do your things… they are most interested in knowing that you care about them…

So, stop trying to bamboze and impress people with your vast knowledge, rather… show them that you care. That you really care about them.

Your favourite suppliers and contractors are most likely to be people that have shown that beyond this transaction: we actually care about whether you make it or not.

Seth Godin always points out that we now more or less live in a “connection economy”; more than ever before, you need to take your time to actually connect with people.

First show that you really care.

Then show that you know your craft.

Then, and only then can we talk about really making real money.

The era of transactional business is over.

Ride a wave

If you do not have the might and scale of big companies…

You have to master the art of riding upon an existing wave.

You might have a lot of brilliant, innovative ideas… but unless we can somehow tap into current trends and movements….

Selling those ideas might be tough.

It is difficult to roll out a completely new product from the very beginning.

You have to see how you can tie it into things your target audience already like and can identify with.

It saves a lot of valuable time.
